So tonight,I was watching a tv show on PBS about the Titanic. And one of the things that was talked about the low-class people that was on the Titanic. One of the things that was talked about how the low-class people were pushed and kept at the bottom of the ship with the water filling fast. And while others were allowed to go onto the lifeboats. This much I had known. But one thing that was said was that there was an official court-ruling into why the people were kept at the bottom and not allowed to come up as well. I don't think there was an actual answer for what the court said. But the thing that was said was that the passageners were worth by the cost of their tickets. And that really got me thinking.
Are we really worth by how much money we have? The more money you have the more valuble you are. Is that's how it really is? Or is it how it was back than in 1912? But how unreal is that? And if you don't have a whole lot of money and you are on the poverty line, you are not valuble, not worthy of anything? You can't even safe your life and the lives around you.
I remember the scene in the movie where the old couple were wrapped in each others arms and the water was filling up under them. Of course, a tear jerker. But they were also apart of the low-class people who were on the ship.
I just think how sad it is when you are define on how much you are worth. In a sense, we are still defining each other in the way. The more money you have, the better things you have. And the low-class people are without so much. The low-class who are in poverty or near poverty, struggle to make it in this world. Rent is a struggle. Having to pick between paying a bill or paying food. Which matters to you the most? Eating just to stay alive or pay that bill that is just as important? Many people go without eating just ot pay for that bill. And according to the state's standards of low-income is ACTUALLY the middle-class people. So, how low-income is that when the standard for low-income is the middle-class? It isn't. That's for sure!
How can we go on defining ourselves by how much we are worth? Despite our income levels shouldn't we all go on treating each other the same? With respect, non-judgement, and the list goes on. We are all human beings in this already messed up world. But really people!!! Defining who we are by how much we are worth? Get real!!! So, according to the people in 1912, don't save the lives who are low-class (poverty levels) because they aren't worth anything. Just save the lives who are middle-class, rich, richer and dirty rich. Never mind everyone else.
Well, these are just my thoughts. And my venting. And my opinion. Just wanted to share this in my blog because I just thought it was unreal that people were define by their worth and their lives were lost based on that thinking by those people.
Until the next time....
